October 20th-22nd Green Aerification/Top Dressing   Volunteers Needed If you have the time and would like to make an impact on junior golf and the future of the game, we have many opportunities and are always looking for volunteers. If you have an interest in helping out, please contact PGA Golf Professional Drew Chapman: dchapman@massgolf.org. View Calendar Drew’s Tip of the Month: "The Moment of Truth"  At impact, both clubhead and ball are in contact with one another for ¾ of an inch and only 4-5/10,000 of a single second. That is much faster than you can blink your eye. In fact, you can have approximately 400 impacts in the time it takes you to blink. If you want to increase your distance, you have two choices. You can increase your club-head speed or improve your impact conditions. The latter is much easier than the former. Assuming a square clubface and centered contact, your clubhead speed gives you 2.5 yards for every mile an hour of clubhead speed. However, if you miss the center of the face or the clubface is not square when the ball leaves it, all bets are off. Where you contact the ball on the clubface will have a great influence on how far the ball travels. A shot struck one inch to the left or right of center will lose 14% of the potential distance compared to a shot hit in the middle of the face with a square clubface. A 250-yard drive now will only travel 215 yards (150 yard drive drops to 129 yards). If contact is more off-center the numbers drop significantly. Learn to make better centered contact consistently and you will be a much happier golfer. An easy practice drill and my all-time favorite is to place two tees in the ground a little wider than the width of your club head. Swing the clubhead between the tee gate without contacting either tee. Do it over and over. If using an iron, brush the grass on the forward side of the tees, not behind them. If you can do that, it will greatly improve your ability to make centered contact resulting in greater distance and the outcome will certainly be impactful. They Said It “There are really two ways of increasing your distance. You can learn to swing the club faster, or you can learn to deliver it to the ball more accurately. -Jack Nicklaus, 18 Professional Major Championships     Contact Us Drew Chapman - Head Golf Professional P: 508-222-0555 \| dchapman@massgolf.org The Links At Mass Golf, 300 W Main St, Norton, MA 02766 Manage preferences |
